VOVC has board certified veterinary surgeons that are available to perform complex orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. These include cranial cruciate rupture repairs, fracture repairs, total hip replacements, and complex abdominal and thoracic procedures. VOVC offers a wide range of surgery services- from routine spays to orthopedic and laparoscopic procedures. We provide safe anesthesia tailored to your pet, as well as comprehensive pain management protocols to ensure your pet is pain free should they require surgery.
Valley Oak Veterinary Center offers laproscopic ovarioectomies for large breed female dogs. Laproscopic spays offer a faster recovery, decreased pain, and decreased chance of complications post-operative when compared to regular spays. These procedures are performed by making two small incisions to insert a scope used to remove the ovaries. We are the only hospital in the Chico area offering this procedure.

Caring for your senior dog:
Spaying and Neutering is a surgical procedure done under general anesthesia typically preformed on a pet around 6 months of age. This not only helps prevent surprise pregnancies as well as unwanted sexual behaviors but also diseases and other health problems that can arise later in life. Spay/Neuter surgery is a price sensitive procedure that is often shopped by new pet owners. Surgery of any kind requires the highest quality and attention to ensure that infection is prevented, pain is controlled, and proper follow up care is provided. It's important to understand that the standard of care often varies between spay/neuter providers. We do not decrease our standards for these heavily subsidized procedures.
At Valley Oak, we offer the highest standard of care using the latest technology. We adhere to the highest surgical standards, we use quality medical products, infection prevention, pain control, and clear after care instructions to ensure a quick recovery. All of our spay/neuter patients prior to anesthesia have a blood panel to monitor for pre-existing problems, they have a breathing tube placed so anesthetic gases and oxygen an be administered, intravenous catheters and fluids are used to help maintain metabolic function, and an extensive array of monitoring is provided. If your pet experiences any post-operative complications, you are not alone, we are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to be of assistance.
